SSC JE 2026: 1,748 Junior Engineer and Scientific Assistant posts, applications closed 22 September

Applications for SSC Junior Engineer 2026 closed on 22 September, but the recruitment is still active: Paper I is expected in October or November 2026 and its schedule is pending. What was advertised

The notice dated 2 September 2026 lists 1,748 tentative posts. The engineering branches are Civil, Mechanical and Electrical, with Telecom added this year for one department, and Scientific Assistant posts for the India Meteorological Department appearing in the same notice. Departments range from CPWD and the Military Engineer Services to Border Roads, Central Water Commission and the Farakka Barrage project, each with its own qualification line in the notice. All posts are Group B non-gazetted at Pay Level 6.

Eligibility recap

A diploma or degree in the relevant engineering branch was the base requirement, with a few departments asking for two years of experience alongside a diploma. The upper age limit was 30 years for most posts and 32 years for CPWD and a couple of other departments, counted on 1 August 2026. The fee was Rs 100 for unreserved, OBC and EWS men, and nil for everyone else.

The exam ahead

Paper I is a two-hour objective test: 50 marks each of reasoning and general awareness, then 100 marks of general engineering in the candidate’s branch. Negative marking is a quarter mark per wrong answer. Paper I marks decide who goes to Paper II, which is a longer discipline-specific objective test. The final merit list is drawn from Paper II alone since Paper I is qualifying, though the Commission normalises scores across shifts. Document verification is done by the user departments after the result.

What to do now

The correction window ran from 28 to 30 September 2026. Exam city intimation usually appears about ten days before Paper I, and the admit card roughly four days ahead. Both come through the candidate login on ssc.gov.in, not by post. Keep the application printout and the fee receipt, and check that the photograph in the form meets the new live-capture rule, because SSC has rejected forms on that ground in recent cycles.
