RRB JE 2026 (CEN 04/2026): 3,993 Junior Engineer posts, CBT 1 from 27 October

RRB Junior Engineer CEN 04/2026 has moved to the exam stage. The Railway Recruitment Boards notified 3,993 posts on 13 August 2026; applications ran from 14 August to 13 September, and corrections closed on 25 September. The first computer-based test is scheduled for 27, 28 and 30 October 2026.

The Junior Engineer vacancy covers civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, signal and telecom, IT and a few smaller streams, with each stream tied to a qualification line in the CEN. Depot Material Superintendent posts need an engineering degree and sit in the stores department. Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant posts accept a B.Sc with physics and chemistry in the specified combination. All posts are at Pay Level 6 in the 7th CPC matrix, with the initial basic pay of Rs 35,400 and railway allowances on top.

Eligibility that applied

Candidates needed to be between 18 and 33 years on 1 January 2027, with five years of relaxation for SC and ST and three for OBC non-creamy layer. A three-year diploma or a degree in the relevant branch was accepted for most JE posts. The fee was Rs 500 with Rs 400 refunded after CBT 1, or Rs 250 fully refunded for the concession groups.

The exam pattern

CBT 1 has 100 questions over 90 minutes: mathematics, reasoning, general awareness and general science. It is a screening test with one-third negative marking, and RRBs shortlist about fifteen times the vacancies from it. CBT 2 is the deciding paper with 150 questions over two hours, of which 100 come from the candidate’s technical discipline. What to watch

Exam city and date intimation normally appears ten days before the CBT, with the admit card four days before. Both are downloaded from the candidate login, and SC and ST candidates can also collect their travel authority there. Candidates who applied under a diploma should carry the final marksheet and the provisional or original diploma at verification; a course completion letter is not accepted. The zone-wise vacancy table in the CEN is the reference for post choices, which cannot be changed at this stage.
