What Group-I means
APPSC Group-I covers the state’s senior administrative and police cadre: Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Commercial Tax Officer, Regional Transport Officer, Municipal Commissioner, District Registrar, Assistant Treasury Officer and several other posts are filled through it. Candidates rank the posts in order of preference and allotment follows merit and reservation. The pay scale is Rs 54,060 to 1,54,980 for most posts, and officers move quickly into district-level responsibility.
Eligibility
A bachelor’s degree from a recognised university is the base requirement. The uniformed posts, such as DSP and Assistant Commissioner of Excise, have physical standards and a narrower age band. For the non-uniformed posts, the state recently raised the upper age limit from 34 to 44 years, and the brief notification reflects that change; the existing relaxations for BC, SC, ST and PwBD candidates continue on top. The exact cut-off date for age will be in the detailed notification.
Fee
The brief notification does not carry the fee. APPSC’s standard practice is an application processing fee plus a separate examination fee, with exemptions from the examination fee for SC, ST, BC, EWS and PwBD candidates of Andhra Pradesh and for unemployed candidates in the specified age band. Selection
Group-I has three stages. The preliminary screening test is objective and used only to shortlist. The main examination is descriptive, with papers on general essay, history and culture, polity and governance, economy and development, and science and technology, alongside a qualifying language paper. An interview follows for those who clear mains. The scheme of examination and the syllabus are appended to the detailed notification.
Getting ready
One Time Profile Registration on psc.ap.gov.in is mandatory and can be done now. Keep the community, EWS or PwBD certificates in the formats the Commission accepts, and note that certificates must be valid on the last date of application.
