India Post GDS 2026 (Schedule-II): 23,757 Gramin Dak Sevak posts for 10th pass, applications closed 21 September

India Post’s second Gramin Dak Sevak engagement of 2026 has moved to the result stage. Notified on 28 August for 23,757 posts, applications closed on 21 September and corrections ended on 24 September. There is no exam; selection depends on Class 10 marks, and the department usually issues circle-wise results within a few weeks of the last date.

The three posts

A Branch Postmaster runs a branch post office in a village, handling mail, savings accounts and payments, and is expected to provide the premises. Assistant Branch Postmaster and Dak Sevak assist with delivery and counter work, at branch offices and at departmental post offices. All three are engagements under the GDS rules rather than regular civil posts, paid through a time related continuity allowance: Rs 12,000 to 29,380 for BPM and Rs 10,000 to 24,470 for the other two, with annual increments.

Eligibility that applied

The qualification was a Class 10 pass from a recognised board with mathematics and English as subjects, and the local language of the postal circle studied at least up to Class 10. Applicants had to be between 18 and 40 years on the closing date, with five years of relaxation for SC and ST, three for OBC and ten for PwBD. Basic computer knowledge and the ability to ride a bicycle were also required, with the latter treated as including a motorcycle or scooter. The fee was Rs 100, waived for women, SC, ST, PwBD and transwomen candidates.

How merit works

The department ranks candidates purely on the percentage of marks in Class 10, calculated to four decimal places, with no weight for higher qualifications. Ties are broken by date of birth, with the older candidate placed first, then by category order. Because a single mark can move a candidate several places, a lot depends on the exact percentage and on how the marksheet shows it. Candidates whose boards give grades rather than marks are converted using the conversion formula in the notification.

After the result

Selected candidates receive an SMS and see their name on the circle list, then report to the divisional head with original documents within the stated time. Verification checks the Class 10 certificate, the local language proof, category certificates and, for BPM posts, the availability of premises. Failure to report leads to the offer moving to the next candidate. The site will link the merit lists as each circle publishes them.
