UPESSC Assistant Teacher 2026: 12,405 primary teacher posts in UP, apply by 15 October

UPESSC Advertisement 05/2026 has 12,405 primary-level Assistant Teacher vacancies, with applications open until 15 October 2026. This is Uttar Pradesh’s first large primary teacher drive since the 2018 cycle and the first run by the new Commission. The window opened on 16 September, and the written exam is set for 3 and 4 December 2026.

The two groups

Most of the vacancy, 11,508 posts, is for Assistant Teacher (Primary, Urban) in the state’s urban primary schools run by the basic education department. A smaller group of 897 posts is Assistant Teacher in aided primary schools attached to secondary institutions. The two groups have different age rules and separate merit lists, and a candidate must choose the group in the form.

Eligibility

Applicants need a graduate degree, a BTC or Diploma in Elementary Education, and a pass in the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test or the Central Teacher Eligibility Test at the primary level. For the urban posts, the age band is 21 to 40 years as on 1 July 2026, with the state’s relaxation for reserved categories. For the aided-school posts the upper limit is linked to the retirement age of 62.

Fee

The fee is Rs 1,500 for general, OBC and EWS candidates, Rs 750 for SC and ST, and Rs 500 for PwBD candidates, payable online by 15 October. Corrections to the submitted form are allowed until 19 October.

The exam

The written test has 120 objective questions for 360 marks in two hours. Each right answer earns three marks and each wrong one costs a mark, so guessing is expensive. The paper covers general knowledge, child development and pedagogy, language, mathematics and environmental studies at the level of the primary curriculum, along with the state’s current affairs. The merit list is drawn from the written marks; there is no interview for these posts.
